What significance does the development of digital technologies have for media institutions and audiences?
- The Hollywood movie is competing a lot better than a UK movie, especially uk indie film as they don't have as much money, technological advances and funding to produce the standard of American movies, this makes the Hollywood movie already at an advantage.
- Movies can use social media to create a buzz around a film during the stages of pre - production. They can do this by using social media websites such as You Tube and Twitter.
- Another way they can create a hype for a movie is to have a big name star in the movie, this was the case for my major English movie, Skyfall.
- For my Hollwood movie they used CGI to create special effects to make the World look like it was ending, in my Indie UK movie this wasn't done as there wasn't enough funding. It was more of a verisimilitude style movie but this also helped attract a niche audience as the stereotypical Welsh lifestyle in the movie attracted a large American audience.
- Skyfall didn't get made into a 3D movie but was produced as an IMAX movie too, this is a big step for an Enlgish movie so shows that there is a large demand and importance for improving digital technology.
- Digital distribution can be done nowadays using things like digital screen network, so the exact same thing can be broadcasted in a lot of cinemas up and down the country, this is helping the film insudustry and as this is improving the interest in theater is declining.
- The use of social media can be used to help promote and hype up a movie like major stars and musicians in all of my case studies have done. Alex Turner helped promote Submarine by his soundtrack. Major film stars in my major movies did this too. James Franco used a hoax on Instagram to pretend to be sending messages to a 17 year old to get publicity as this is what his new movie was about and this got people talking about a small, indie film.
- A soundtrack was brought out for all my case studies, a game was also released for Skyfall so these are examples of cross-media convergence.
- Merchandise was also brought out such as action figures, Skyfall themed popcorn buckets at the cinema and Skyfall themed Coca-Cola cans were released so these are examples of Synergy.
- Prosumers have a large role in this as social networking can help promote movies by the use of hashtags, retweets and interaction with movie stars. You Tube can also be used to share interviews and movie trailers too.
Overall the development of digital technology has a huge impact on the film industry and it's mainly a positive one too. It really helps create a buzz leading up to the movie, helps make the quality of the film better overall and gets the audience interacted a lot more easier too.

- Eon Productions (Everything Or Nothing) is a film production company known for producing the James Bond film series. The company is based in London's Piccadilly and also operates from Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom. It is a subsidiary of Danjaq LLC, the holding company responsible for the copyright and trademarks to the Bond characters and elements on screen. MGM bought Danjaq LLC when it became a mini major.
- Skyfall has earned $1.1 billion worldwide and is the highest-grossing film worldwide for Sony Pictures and the second-highest-grossing film of 2012.[104][105] On its opening weekend, it earned $80.6 million from 25 markets. In the UK the film grossed £20.1 million on its opening weekend, making it the second-highest Friday-to-Sunday debut.
- Skyfall was released on DVD and Blu-ray in the US on 12 February 2013,[140] and in the UK on 18 February 2013.
- The soundtrack album was released on 29 October 2012 in the United Kingdom and on 6 November 2012 in the United States.
- In October 2012 British singer-songwriter Adele confirmed that she had written and recorded the film's theme song with her regular songwriter, Paul Epworth.[92][93] She later posted the cover for the "Skyfall" sheet music on Twitter, crediting the songwriting to herself and Epworth, with arrangements to both Epworth and orchestrator J. A. C. Redford.[94] The song was released online at 0:07 am BST on 5 October 2012, a day dubbed "James Bond Day" by the producers as it marked fifty years to the day of the release of Dr. No.
- It was the first James Bond film to be screened in IMAX venues, although it was not filmed with IMAX cameras.
- The film's release coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Bond series, which began with Dr. No in 1962.
- These are all the merchandise that was brought out in a synergistic way:

It includes nail varnish, coats, watches and coca cola to name a few.
- One of the merchandise released was coca cola. Coca-Cola bought Columbia Pictures in 1981 owing to the low monetary value of the studio. The film company was the first and only studio ever owned by Coca-Cola. During its ownership of the studio (their introduction to the film industry), the studio released many popular films including Ghostbusters, Stripes, The Karate Kid, and some others. However, with the 1987 film Ishtar, this ownership became no more. Columbia is now owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. This used cross media convergence.
- Filmed at Pinewood Studios.
- For the first time the over-45s represented the biggest proportion of cinema-goers in the UK, with 36% visiting the big screen compared to 25% from the 15-24 age group. VOD and web 2.0 effects this.
- They used the Olympics to create a British hype around the movie and attract a niche audience. They used the plane stunt at the opening ceremony to create a hype as Danny Boyle was supposed to help with the movie production but was pre occupied with the opening ceremony to help so he used this to help out, this got a lot of people talking about the movie worldwide.
- The laptop used in the movie was a Sony Vaio - relates back to the distributor.
- Imax was created by using Arri Alexa cameras.
- In the movie a Sony Xperia phone was used which relates back to the distributor and a special edition of the phone called 'The Bond Phone' was available.
